What is rammed earth?
A technique of stabilising earth into beautiful and strong wall structures.
The mix is created by combining various gravels and sands
with cement and water.
Once mixed, the earth is compacted pneumatically
in layers within temporary formwork.
The formwork is then stripped to reveal a unique and
beautifully layered wall.
There are many applications for choosing rammed earth walls.
The walls provide not only a beautiful aesthetic, they are also structurally engineered and load bearing.
We add a specific rammed earth plasticiser, which increases the wall's water repellency, making it a durable material even externally.
Rammed earth is an excellent thermal mass and is low in embodied energy.
The technique utilises local materials and minimal processing.
Rammed earth is well suited for use in passive solar design
and can be insulated to achieve high star ratings.
